Google Business Profile for Cleaning Companies

Answer

A complete Google Business Profile with 10+ photos, weekly management, and consistent review responses generates measurably more calls and quote requests than incomplete profiles, which Google deprioritizes in local search rankings.

  • Profiles with 10+ photos receive 5× more views than those with 0-1 photos
  • Primary category selection determines which search queries trigger your profile to appear
  • One new review per 10 completed jobs maintains ranking advantage over profiles with only older reviews

Your Google Business Profile is the first impression for most commercial and residential prospects searching for cleaning services in your service area. A properly configured profile drives phone calls, quote requests, and direct bookings. A neglected profile sends prospects to competitors who show up with complete information, recent photos, and active review responses.

Initial Profile Setup and Category Selection

Claim your profile at business.google.com using the business email tied to your legal entity. Verify ownership through postcard, phone, or email depending on what Google offers for your address.

Select your primary category carefully. It determines which search queries trigger your profile. For most operators:

  • Commercial Cleaning Service if you serve offices, medical facilities, or retail spaces
  • House Cleaning Service if you serve residential clients exclusively
  • Janitorial Service if you handle recurring maintenance contracts
  • Carpet Cleaning Service only if carpet is your primary revenue line

Add up to nine secondary categories. Include Window Cleaning Service, Floor Refinishing Service, or Pressure Washing Service if those represent at least 15% of your revenue. Do not add categories for services you subcontract or perform fewer than twice per month.

Set your service area by ZIP code or radius, not by city name. A 15-mile radius covers most metro operators. A 30-mile radius works for rural markets. Do not claim areas you cannot reach within 45 minutes during business hours.

Business Information Fields

Complete every field Google offers. Incomplete profiles rank lower in local pack results.

Write a business description between 500 and 750 characters. State what you clean, who you serve, and your service radius in the first sentence. Include your licensing or certification status if applicable. Mention same-day service, green cleaning products, or bonding only if you actually offer them. Do not repeat your business name or stuff keywords.

List your phone number as a local number, not a toll-free line. Google prioritizes profiles with area codes matching the service location.

Set business hours to match your actual answering availability. If you take calls until 6 PM but stop dispatching at 4 PM, list 6 PM. Update hours for holidays at least one week in advance.

Add attributes that apply: women-led, veteran-led, online estimates, on-site services. Do not select attributes you cannot fulfill within 48 hours of request.

Photo Requirements and Upload Schedule

Upload at least 10 photos before you start driving traffic to your profile. Profiles with fewer than 10 photos see significantly lower engagement.

Required photo types:

  • Logo: square, 720×720 minimum, transparent or white background
  • Cover photo: 1,024×576, your team in branded uniforms or a clean workspace you service
  • Exterior: your office or vehicle with visible signage
  • Team: at least two photos of staff in uniform, faces visible
  • Work in progress: three to five images showing cleaning tasks mid-process
  • Before and after: two to four comparison sets for high-impact services like floor stripping or post-construction cleanup

Add one new photo every seven to ten days. Google treats fresh photos as a signal of active business operation. Rotate through different service types and locations.

Do not upload stock images, photos with visible competitor branding, or images taken from manufacturer websites. Google can detect and remove stock photography.

Review Generation and Response Protocol

Request reviews from clients within 24 hours of job completion. Send a direct link to your review form using the short URL from your GBP dashboard.

Aim for one new review per 10 completed jobs. A steady flow of recent reviews matters more than total count. Profiles with reviews dated within the past 30 days rank higher than profiles with older reviews, even if the older profile has more total reviews.

Respond to every review within 48 hours. For positive reviews, thank the client by name and mention the specific service or location. Keep responses under 100 words. Do not ask for referrals or repeat your business name.

For negative reviews, acknowledge the issue in the first sentence, state what you will do differently, and offer a direct contact method. Do not argue, blame staff, or request the client remove the review. Respond once and move on.

Example response to a negative review:

We fell short on the break room detail you requested. We have retrained our team on checklist adherence and added a supervisor sign-off for multi-area jobs. Please call me directly at [number] so I can make things right.

Posts and Updates

Publish a post every 10 to 14 days. Posts appear in your profile for seven days, then archive. They signal active management to both Google and prospects.

Effective post types:

  • Service area expansion: "Now serving [ZIP codes] for commercial office cleaning"
  • Seasonal availability: "Accepting new post-construction cleanup clients through March"
  • Certification or insurance updates: "OSHA 30-hour certified team as of [date]"
  • Equipment upgrades: "Added HEPA vacuums for medical facility contracts"

Include one photo with each post. Write 100 to 150 words. Add a call-to-action button: Call Now, Book, or Learn More.

Do not post promotional discounts, holiday greetings, or generic cleaning tips. These generate low engagement and dilute your profile authority.

Questions and Answers Section

Seed your Q&A section with five to seven questions clients actually ask during sales calls. Answer each in 50 to 100 words.

Common questions to pre-answer:

  • Do you provide cleaning supplies and equipment?
  • What is your cancellation policy?
  • Are you insured and bonded?
  • Do you offer same-day or emergency service?
  • What areas do you serve?

Monitor the Q&A section weekly. Prospects and competitors can post questions publicly. Answer new questions within 24 hours. Flag and report spam or competitor questions that misrepresent your services.

Tracking Performance

Review your GBP Insights dashboard every Monday. Track search queries that trigger your profile, actions taken (calls, website clicks, direction requests), photo views, and discovery source (direct search vs. discovery search vs. Maps).

If direction requests exceed phone calls, add your phone number to your cover photo and pin a post with your contact information. If discovery searches outpace direct searches, you are ranking for category terms but lack brand recognition. Increase your posting frequency and add more service-specific photos.

If photo views cluster around before-and-after images, prioritize uploading more comparison sets for your highest-margin services.

Export your Insights data monthly. Compare month-over-month changes in total profile views and actions. A 10% monthly increase in actions is a realistic target for an actively managed profile.

Common Setup Errors

Do not create multiple profiles for a single location. Google will suspend duplicate listings. If you operate multiple service lines from one address, use secondary categories instead of separate profiles.

Do not use a virtual office or coworking space address unless you meet clients there regularly. Google verifies service-area businesses and may suspend profiles with mailbox addresses.

Do not change your business name to include keywords. "Smith Cleaning" is acceptable. "Smith Cleaning | Commercial Office Janitorial Service Boston" will trigger a suspension.

Do not delete and recreate your profile to remove negative reviews. Google tracks ownership history and will merge the old reviews into the new profile.

Do not pay for review services or incentivize reviews with discounts. Google can detect review velocity anomalies and will filter or remove suspicious batches.
